dcterms.abstractThis photograph, from the Auckland Drama Council's 1957 production of T.S. Eliot's {{Murder in the cathedral}}, demonstrates Clifton Firth's photographic style and shows the quality and historical detail of the costumes used for the production. A prominant professional photographer and graphic designer, Firth (1904-1980), an Elam graduate, had photographic studio in Queen Street where he photographed well-known Auckland identities. His photographs of Auckland's amateur theatre productions such as this adopt his trademark style of dramatic lighting using black-and-white photography to recall an age of Hollywood theatrical glamour.en
