Musgrove played an integral part in the establishment of the Outdoor Summer Shakespeare programme at the University of Auckland directing the first production in 1963. Outdoor performances of Shakespeare are an amateur tradition which started in England and which Musgrove was keen to introduce to Auckland audiences. This photograph is of the stage and seating arrangement for the first Summer Shakespeare, {{Hamlet}} and shows how Musgrove used the Old Arts Building as part of the set. Four years earlier Musgrove directed a performance of Romeo and Juliet in the ClockTower which also utilised the unique architecture of the building.en
