dcterms.abstract | In addition to focusing on the works of classic playwrights, Musgrove also chose contemporary plays that were challenging for both the audience and actors. This programme is from the University Theare Company's 1968 production of {{Armstrong's last goodnight}}. Written by John Arden in 1964 the play is based on historical events in Scotland during the 1530s and was performed with thick Scottish accents. The play is centred around power struggles, the contest of 'ane man againast ane man.' In writing the play John Arden drew on contemporary politics of the time including the Congo Crisis of the early 1960s. | en |
