Title: This Might Be The Place
Publisher: INZART / The University of Auckland Library = Te Tumu Herenga
Abstract: "Spanning past, present, and future, McQuarrie's, Mechen's and McAvoy's expolartions of the places close to them have a peculiar cumulative effect: they provoke us to consider our own understandings of home."
Article discusses the work of the three photographers included in the exhibition 'This Might Be The Place', exploring the theme of place. Caroline McQuarrie presents a series of photographs which explore the history of the abandoned gold-mining town of Waiuta in the South Island. In 2014, Johanna Mechen joined the Friends of Waiwhetu stream and produced a series of documentary-style photographs in response to the stories they shared about the history of the polluted stream and their clean-up efforts. Emil McAvoy presents a suite of works depicting Hamilton as a 'City of the Future', engaging with themes of climate change and extra-terrestrial tourism.
