Title: | Kermadec inspirations |
Publisher: | INZART/The University of Auckland Library=Te Tumu Herenga |
Abstract: | "In May, nine artists set off on a week-long expedition to the northernmost reaches of New Zealand waters. The Kermadec Islands, located on a volcanic arc running from Tauranga to Tonga, are untouched and relatively unexplored. In the deepest parts of the region the oceans stretch 10,000 metres down. The trip was a first and arranged by a US-led environment group which wants the area to become the world's largest ocean sanctuary. Unlike Antarctica and New Zealand's sub-Antarctic islands, the Kermadec Islands hardly feature in New Zealand art, but on Thursday images inspired by the May trip opened at Wellington City Gallery." |
