Abstract: | 'This text has as its basis a lecture delivered on 18 February 1972 to the Society of Friends of the Robert McDougall Art Gallery. When inviting me to address the Friends, the Director requested that I 'talk on the development of public collections, particularly in relation to contemporary work'. The occasion marked the display, in the Gallery, of the Manawatu Art Gallery's Centennial Collection with which I had been associated as a member of the advisory panel assisting in selecting paintings for the collection.' |
