Title: | Reverie and phantasmagoria: Recent paintings by Seraphine Pick |
Publisher: | INZART/The University of Auckland Library=Te Tumu Herenga |
Abstract: | "1998 was a highly productive (and no doubt strenuous) year for painter Seraphine Pick, culminating with the award of the Frances Hodgkins Fellowship in Dunedin for 1999. She held no fewer than four solo exhibitions during the year: 'Recent Painting' at the Brooke-Gifford Gallery in Christchurch in April/May; 'Scratching Skin' (which Justin Paton described as a 'pocket retrospective') at the McDougall Annex in Christchurch in June/July (it also showed at the Dunedin Public Art Gallery); 'Small Things' at the Lesley Kriesler Gallery in New Plymouth in September; and 'Naked' at the Anna Bibby Gallery in Auckland in November. Also in 1998 Pick created a window installation at Fiat Lux in Auckland, and took part in two group shows, 'Leap of Faith' at the Govett-Brewster in New Plymouth and 'Skywriters and Earthmovers' in Christchurch; she also taught painting half time at Elam." |
