dcterms.description.bioJames Livingston Macassey was a Dunedin barrister and member of the Provincial Council of Otago. Born in 1841 in Carrickfergus, County Antrim, Ireland, he moved to Dunedin in 1862, after entering the legal profession as a boy in Adelaide. In 1867, he married Elizabeth Kettle, daughter of the early surveyor, Charles Henry Kettle. He died during a visit to Adelaide in 1880.en
