Abstract: The Nga Manu Korero Speech Contest was originally known as the Korimako Speech Contest. The aim of the contest was to encourage among Maori secondary school students a greater command and fluency in the use of spoken English. The contest was sponsored and organised jointly by the Maori Education Foundation (now the Maori Education Trust) and the Post Primary Teachers Association (PPTA)
