dc.description.abstract | This case provides an overview of the film industry based in Hollywood, California. It focuses on the 'studio system' dominated by six publicly listed conglomerates who own a number of film studios each, and who make the majority of their revenue from non-theatrical sources. Unlike the 'Golden age' of Hollywood, studios now make most of their money from intellectual property, including DVDs, television licensing, and merchandising. Studios spend almost as much money on marketing and distribution as on the film itself. This case is designed for an undergraduate classroom and restricted to Business 101 and Business 102 courses | en |
