Abstract: | Ceramic artist, Richard Stratton, was awarded the 2013 Portage Ceramic Awards residency at Guldagergaard, Denmark. In 2015, prior to embarking on the residency, Stratton travelled to the United Kingdom and Europe, visiting museums and mud-larking on the Thames River. During the residency Stratton responded to the painting, architecture and sculpture seen on his travels including brutalist forms. On his return to New Zealand, with the support of a grant from Creative New Zealand, Stratton has been mixing his own clay. |
