Title: Upward spiral
Publisher: INZART / The University of Auckland Library = Te Tumu Herenga
Abstract: Profiles Pablo Arts Studios in Wellington and Ōtahtahi Creative Spaces in Christchurch, organisations that both work with individuals who have experienced mental ill health or social isolation. Through creative activities Pablos seeks to build self-esteem and support connections with family, friends and the wider community. Ōtahtahi Creative Spaces set up a community art studio, Room 5, to help people with mental-health issues following the Canterbury earthquakes. The article also discusses recent academic studies that support creative activities leading to an "upward spiral" of increased well-being.
