dc.description.abstract | Speaks to the work of Rosanna Raymond, known internationally for her collaborative performances that bring together diasporic Pacific Islander communities, exploring themes of gender and the body. Discusses the performances Raymond refers to as 'acti.VA.tions', referencing "Va", a Polynesian term for spacial relations or a place of exchange. Raymond reflects on her experiences growing up in Christchurch, experiencing racism, modelling in Europe, feminism, and the Urban Pasifika movement. Discusses recent interventions staged by Raymond's SaVAge K'lub, and collaborations with Indigenous groups, especially women, transgender and queer artists. Details the series of characters Raymond has developed including, Sistar S'Pacific, Dusky Maiden, SEAoncey and My Va Body. | - |
