Abstract: Speaks to the 2017 Chartwell Collection exhibition 'Shout Whisper Wail!', on display at the Auckland Art Gallery. Profiles the Chartwell Trust, formed in 1974 by Rob Gardiner, which now includes over 40 years of acquisitions of work by initially New Zealand, and later also Australian artists. Describes the scope of the Collection and the activities of the Trust, including exhibitions and commissions. Discusses works in the collection, including a collaborative painting 'Tepu no.1' (1995) by Chris Heaphy and Gordon Walters. Discusses Walter's appropriation of the Koru and surrounding debate between Māori and Pākehā artists and academics.
