dc.description.abstractSue Gardiner reflects on works at the Venice Biennale of Art 2017. Discusses the work of Francis Alÿs at the Iraq pavilion, which explores the role of the artist in times of war. Speaks to Damien Hirst's extravagant project spread across two venues. Describes projects entitled 'La Venezia che non si vede' which proposed a sensory interpretation of Venice, and the central exhibition 'Viva Arte Viva' which included work by Francis Upritchard. Explores 'Lisa Reihana: Emissaries' at the New Zealand Pavilion presented within the Arsenale. Describes the presentation of the cinematic work 'in Pursuit of Venus [infected]' (2015-17) and the inclusion of two large photographic works marking the beginning and end of the exhibition. Considers highlights across the Biennale at various national pavilions.-
