Abstract: Profiles the painting career of Michael Illingworth. Provides biographical details about the artist, including formative and defining connections made in the 1950s, international travel and receiving the Frances Hodgkins Fellowship in 1966. Talks to Illingworth's interest in ecologically driven art-making and the emerging Green movement. Considers the artist's shift to the Coromandel in 1973, where he juggled being an organic farmer and artist. Discusses influences and references in Illingworth's work including from biblical and mythological sources and Māori lore.
