Abstract

Profiles the career of Australian-based glass artist, Wendy Fairclough, who has recently returned to Whanganui to take up the Tylee Cottage residency. Discusses the artist's training in Australia and initial introduction to glass art. Describes Fairclough's incorporation of engraving techniques and her casting process which uses common, domestic objects presented in groups or installations. Considers recent work which explores traditional Māori and Pākehā natural food sources. Discusses a collaborative project with the artists sister-in-law Trina Taurua, which responds to Māori proverbs about food sources and sustainability.
