dc.description.abstract"This year's Wallace had reasonably broad scope – always a sign of good judging – with a range of genres and media. But still there was an emphasis on more strongly graphic painting styles with less realistic narrative and more colours. Neighbouring exhibitions included Roger Mortimer, a winner from a couple years back, who looked so completely different [...] 'Freedom and Structure: Cubism and New Zealand Art 1930-1960', was a stunner, with impressive historical works".-
