Title: Heavy to hold
Authors: Iti, Ana
Publisher: INZART / The University of Auckland Library = Te Tumu Herenga
Abstract: "In January 2016, Ana Iti spent three weeks in residence on the Ōtākou Penninsula working toward her solo exhibition Heavy to Hold, which opened the 2016 programme in February. Heavy to Hold explored the fraught history of the hand-constructed seawall that runs along the Peninsula, combining film and sculptural components with two recorded interviews that provided different perspectives on the seawall as an archaeological and cultural landmark. In the following interview Ana Iti and Wellington-based artist Bridget Rewiti reflect on their positions as emerging, contemporary Māori artists, discussing recent residency experiences, their evolving practices and navigating indigenous perspectives within exhibition making."
