Abstract: Speaks to the exhibition 'transactions, frank' (2016) at Blue Oyster, curated by Victoria Wynne-Jones. Describes the exhibition as part of a wider feminist strategy, exploring ways of making masculinity visible and explicit, enabling questions of received notions of gender. States a central concern as to whether it is possible to misappropriate Pākehā masculinity. Discusses the representation of Pākehā masculinity through pop culture cartoon figures Ches and Dale. Explores the nature of cartoons and their consumption by audiences. Describes Dylan Scott's work 'untitled (four horsemen of the apocalypse)', and his broader practice of drawing cartoons and zines which comment of popular culture and local politics. Discusses an audio work by Tim Wagg entitled 'Refuse to Look Inward' (2016), which draws on the the video game Bioshock.
