Abstract: | Briefly describes a work by Tauranga Art Gallery registrar Jo Torr which won a merit award at this year's National Contemporary Art Award. The work is "made of found embroidered linen, muka (dressed flax fibre) and found metal bracket" and features the moko design of a man named Korro Korro, reproduced from a drawing in a letter by his brother "Ngapuhi chief Tuai who travelled to London in 1818 [...] to develop a Maori dictionary". |
