Authors: | Pitts, Priscilla |
Publisher: | INZART / The University of Auckland Library = Te Tumu Herenga |
Abstract: | Article reviews Toi Art, a new dedicated art space at Te Papa 'redefining what a national art gallery could be'. Highlighting Te Papa's controversial history in redefining the national museum, the article discusses how Toi Art negotiates the commissioning of large new works and its existing art collection in an effort to "eschew an orthodox chronological story...of New Zealand art". Reflects on architectural additions, curatorial improvements through use space and visibility, as well as shortcomings regarding audience response to art. |
