dc.description.abstractLinda Tyler reflects on the history of the University of Auckland's art collection, from its inception in the 1960s, under the Vice-Chancellor Sir Kenneth Maidment. Includes discussion of two Titirangi drawings by Colin McCahon bought from the newly opened Barry Lett Galleries among the first works acquired; the purchase of Gordon Walters' koru paintings in the 1970s, and; a Whanganui River photograph by Anne Noble in 1983. Includes mention of Wystan Curnow, Michael Dunn, and Linda Tyler's role on the purchasing committee. Mentions the Elam archive and McCahon's painting style during his years teaching at the Elam School of Fine Arts.-
