dc.description.abstractReview of Michael Parekowhai's exhibition 'Détour' at Te Papa's new Toi Art gallery. Reflects on a range of art works included and considers how Parekowhai's sculptural works and "framing device" draw attention to the museum as "a container, a frame, a portmanteau." Discusses the artist's references to Marcel Duchamp works 'Boîte-en-valise' and 'Sixteen Miles of String', and Maureen Lander's 'String Games' (1998) which was commissioned for the launch of Te Papa in 1998.-
