Abstract: Article reflects on artist Juliet Peter's experiences in London during the early 1950s. Discusses lodging with Christchurch gallerist Helen Hitchings, sketching scenes of neighbours' houses for pock money, and her manipulation of conventions in the works 'October, London' (c.1954) and 'London, Pigeons' (1954). Includes discussion of her Wellington studio with husband Roy and the couple's contributions to New Zealand's art scene by sharing their knowledge of pottery, kiln-making and cutting-edge colour lithographic techniques.
