Abstract: Article speaks to Joyce Campbell's 16mm film project 'The Reef' (2018) exhibiting at Two Rooms. Reflects on the work's depiction an endangered Fijian reef at dusk, and her use of photographic and cinematic techniques to examine the collision of natural and cultural systems. Considers Campbell's repurposed use of an optical printer to degrade the surface of the film with grit and sand.
