Title: | An engagement with place |
Publisher: | INZART/The University of Auckland Library=Te Tumu Herenga |
Abstract: | This article surveys the biennial event Sculpture on the Gulf, whose initial focus "was on art education, recognition of the role of artists as core community members, and with the objective to provide an art experience for the people of Waiheke Island... [the event] did far more, bringing 12,500 visitors to the island for its first event and by the fourth outing in 2009, visitor numbers had risen to 23,000". Sculpture on the Gulf features a wide range of New Zealand artists, who are encouraged to respond directly to the site. |
