Authors: Banbury, Grant
Publisher: INZART / The University of Auckland Library = Te Tumu Herenga
Abstract: Features the work of multi-media artist, Julia Holden, who explores portraiture through combining oil painting, performance, photography and stop-motion animation. Considers the series 'its like now: and incomplete portrait of Christchurch', a suite of paintings based on selfie videos sent to the artist through social media. Discusses Holden's 'performance paintings' where live models are painted in the likeness of subjects from historical paintings. Details the artist's most recent project 'Lyttelton Redux', developed in collaboration with Ngā Taonga Sound & Vision, using local models to create portraits of noted personalities in Lyttelton, presented as a virtual Museum.
