Abstract: Profiles New Zealand painter John Walsh. Reflects on his early development, enrolling at Ilam in Christchurch and early experiments with house paint. Discusses Walsh's depiction of New Zealand landscapes in relation to the effects of global warming. Describes works which depict mythic landscapes with fantastical elements. Curator Mark Hutchins-Pond explores the dreamlike qualities of Walsh's work. Gallerist, John Gow, reflects on his first encounter with Walsh's work in the exhibition 'Parihaka' (2000-2001). Discusses the reception of Walsh's work in the art market and less commonly in secondary sales. Matt Nache discusses Walsh's representation by PAULNACHE Gallery and describes Walsh's work in relation to mythologies and fables reflecting the artist's dual European and Māori heritage.
