Authors: | Inkson, Kerr Browning, Victoria Kirkwood, Jodyanne |
Issue Date: | 22-Aug-2013 |
Abstract: | The case study outlines the conception of the Credit Union Otago (CUO) with its roots in the formation of two Dunedin industrial credit unions in 1973 - Otago Waterfront and the Fletcher Group of Companies Employees. It outlines the CUO's association with the New Zealand Association of Credit Unions (NZACU) and the need for credit unions to compete in the deregulated market of the late 1980s in which retail banks began to dominate. The case study illustrates the changes brought on by deregulation, changes to legislation and ongoing competition within the finance sector and how the CUO dealt with these issues |
